Track Session this Wednesday
I am organising a track session this Wednesday for anybody who is interested. All abilities welcome, as you will be running within your own capabilities.
We are also expecting a coach to come down too.
Meet in the car park at 7pm to start at 7:15 and all it costs is £3

The track is the one in Stourport where the Treat / Mercer 10k starts from opposite Stourport High School.

There will still be a normal training run from the Glades at the usual time { Simon }

The coach is coming this Wednesday. I'm just awaiting confirmation of timings.

I can confirm there will be another track session this Wednesday 10th. Meet at 7pm to start at 7:15 there will be a coach in attendance this week too. I think last week was successful in that everybody was able to work at their own pace/rate, and hopefully we can build on this without detracting from the usual running that takes place from the Glades.

There will also be a normal training run from the Glades at the usual time.

Men's XC End of Season Night Out

The plan is to meet at the Seven Stars in Kidderminster from 7pm onwards, then for those who wish to, to carry on for a curry at either Paradise or Papaya.

1. If you haven't already done so, please let me know if you're coming or not, so that I can book a table.

2. I'd appreciate advice on which of Paradise or Papaya is better, as I don't know either. Are both licensed?

3. Anyone who can let Dean know or give me a phone number for him? (Dean, suggest you switch to yahoo, hotmail etc)

See you in a few days guys.

Runaround Whyre Forest 8.5
With less than a month to go and it is that time where we ask for your help to promote arguably one of the best races in the world (ok I might be over exaggerating, but it is a damn fine race.)

There are plenty of jobs from marshalling, finish funnel, goody bag fillers, drink station to cover.

Could I ask that those who are able to attend let me know by either E-Mail or down the club when you see me, so we can start to compile a list of attendees, it would be appreciated if you could let me now if you CAN'T make it too.

Many Thanks for all offers of help { Simon }

Just to update you all,

There will be light buffet at the Duke William Pub for marshal's (including families) after the race, please confirm you are attending to JANE PYE so we can order enough food.

Thanks to all who have replied already.

We could really do with more people so if you have any family or friends you can drag along too, it would be most appreciated.

Also, names to Jane for food afterwards at the Duke William.

Cheers

Just for those who are after a weather check. The race is still on, I am going to the forest in the morning to run the half course. The snow fall isn't that bad in Kidderminster, but that's not to say it won't be worse or better in the forest tomorrow.

I will, of course, update you all tomorrow should there be any change. Meanwhile, if you speak to any athletes that ave entered and ask if the race is on, please tell them it is!

The course is good to go! There is some snow about, but it was melting fast this morning, so I doubt there will be any left by Sunday.

If you can attempt to be around the visitors centre at 9am somebody will distribute jobs accordingly.

Hello,

Firstly thank you to all the runners who braved the snow for what was possibly the most scenic Wyre Forest 8 runs ever? Certainly since I have been a member of the club. It was a tough battle at the front of the field, and a good mix of abilities throughout the field.

Thank you to everybody who came and helped, sorry I didn't get round to thank you all individually, but I'm sure you are aware how grateful the club is for your continued support and help.

Thank you also to the Red Cross for turning out in force to once again provide two points of contact on the course for anybody suffering an injury. I believe they only had a couple of people at the finish to deal with.

The half marathon will be taking place on Sunday 11th July, so if I could ask you to pencil that in your diaries as we require even more help than the 8.5 mile race.

I will be in contact about the Half later in the year, once every thing is set in stone.

Wyre Forest 8 Recce ?
Hi All

I know it's short notice but I'll be running the Wyre Forest 8 course on Sunday if anyone interested. The ladies are also running the course on Sunday at 09:30, I was thinking more 10:00 myself. I'll see what response I get and take it from there. We'll meet at the visitor centre and last one back can buy the hot chocolates !

Naturally, otherwise we'd all be milling around, not knowing where to stand. Your girly team can use it for changing (I'll switch off tent-cam temporarily), bag storage etc during the warm-up event if you want, as long as you bring cakes.

JW Ultra
Entries to the full race will be available from www.ultrarunner.co.uk from the 1st February, they will be online only, so no paperwork involved.

The race organiser has said that if we wish to enter any relay teams, we can do, we just need to book the places and pay the entry fee of £45 and let them know the actual teams the week beforehand (we have previously submitted teams then had to change them for various reasons.)

As soon as I have the relay entry form, I will let you all know, but if you can sort your teams out between you, as I intend to take up my 30mile place { Simon }

I'm also in for the solo 30 mile event, having deferred from 2009. Those who took part in this in 2008 and 2009 would all vouch for the fact that it's a great day out, so I'd echo Simon's suggestion to put a team in, even if you're only 80% certain at this stage, as you can change runners at the last minute.

The 30 mile race is now full, and I have the entry form for the relay race. As I already said, you do not need to commit to team member names, just that you intend to do the race and pay your entry. Team members can be added at a later date.

Contact me for the entry form if you are interested.

May Hill Massarce
Is anyone else doing this race on sunday ? If anyone has done it before, any tips ? I know the race is full. { Sarah A }
2010-02-02 15:15:24
Replies:
Sarah, not doing it this year, but these were my notes from last year. It's 8.46 miles and, adjusting for your pace versus mine, you should expect to average about 8'45" minutes per mile, i.e. plenty of mud and hills. In view or recent weather I'd suggest Mudclaws or similar this year, despite comment below. Comment about parking means you should ignore directions to designated place and drive right to the start area, where you'll find parking in a lumber yard just before and to the left.

"1 degree but felt colder with wind chill, snow flurries. First
0.3m downhill tarmac then uphill, mainly good tracks to top of
May Hill at 2.3m. Mostly downhill from there apart from tough
hill at about 6.5m. Some flat and uphill sections of deep mud
but nowhere near as muddy as had expected. Fell shoes were
OK but trail shoes be fine most years I think. Final couple of
miles retraces start so last 0.3m is uphill tarmac. Most had to
park miles away, so aim for lumber yard on left just before the
start/finish."

Who needs 118!

It was a good race, very tough in places but too many steep downhills for me! I managed it in 72 mins last year. DON'T GO OFF TOO FAST - its a fast start but then you hit a very long climb so save your energy to get up that! Good luck and see you at the last XC next weekend?

This was an excellent race, race report sent to Richard. Managed it in 74 mins- apparently the mud was gloopier and more trainer sucking than last year,but didn't reach one's knees like last year !
